1988 Vauxhall Astra GTE 2.0 16v (E)
No
Reserve
In sole ownership from new, pulled out of the
vendor's barn and presented "as is" this is a rare and exciting opportunity
to restore this iconic 80's Hot Hatch featuring a red-top engine and digital
dash
Dating from August 1988 this now rare car,
covered in dust is a rather special thing.
Our
vendor bought the car brand new back then and has kept it ever since, parking it
up in c. Yr.2000 in his barn, where its remained since.
This version, is of course the fabled 2.0 16-valve GTE, which means
it has the c.156bhp ‘Red top’ four cylinder engine, with tell-tale square exit
twin exhausts at the back and traditional five-speed manual
gearbox.
Finished in white and sitting on its
original wheels the car is presented ‘as is’ straight from the barn, to preserve
its originality and story for you all.
Inside,
we find grey cloth seats with red pin-striping, electric mirrors, original
radio/cassette player, manual windows and of course, as an earlier car, the
famous digital dash too, the analogue odometer showing 141,627 miles through the
dust.
No attempt has been made to start, or
turn the engine in case of a problem, fuel leak or fire given how long it has
been stood in a barn but we are told the engine is free.
The car evidently requires some restoration, as can be seen in the
images with some holes to the sills in evidence (see pics) but what a base to
start with.
The history file includes the old
style V5 confirming our vendor as the sole owner, the owner’s pack with manuals,
couple of magazines and period sales brochure with details on the range of fast
Vauxhalls of that sweet late 80’s period along with a MY1990 Astra sales
brochure.
Absolutely worth restoring, tidy
examples now command north of £10k which looks set to continue growing – these
are proper hot hatches of their late 80’ era and couldn’t be cooler – what an
exciting opportunity and on offer at No Reserve too.
