1929 Humber 9/28
No Reserve
Super, well
patinated Light Car; recent engine overhaul with new rings; lots of history;
oily rag delight
Purchased from Brightwells several
years ago, its previous owner had acquired the car back in 2016. He spent
four years improving it, keeping the car as original as possible without
affecting the patina and external appearance which is so appealing in an 'oily
rag' way.
The chassis received plenty of care and attention,
including a comprehensive rear axle overhaul. This included a new diff carrier
and replacement crown wheel and pinion, using the slightly higher ratio from a
9/20 model. He also fitted a new prop shaft.
The front axle was treated
to new king pins, the dampers rebuilt and four new tyres fitted - bringing
the rolling aspects of the car up to scratch.
The bodywork needed a few
jobs, including attention to a few areas of the wood frame which were
replaced with ash. The interior was carefully considered and the seat squabs and
backs stripped, rebuilt with new springs and wadding and then skillfully covered
in their original patinated leather! You would hardly know until you sat on
them.
Under the bonnet, the carburettor was rebuilt, a correct
autovac installed and the dynastart rebuilt too. Most of the wiring has also
been replaced and the car fitted with a new exhaust manifold and
exhaust system.
Since acquisition, the current owner can add an engine
overhaul into the mix. He found the performance somewhat lacking and a
compression test showed why. A new set of rings sorted that out and it has been
running fine since, sufficient for a successful run to Silverstone to compete in
the VSCC autosolo earlier this year. He has also fitted a correct transmission
handbrake and had the radiator recored.
It comes with a few boxes of
spares and a good history file.
It would be very welcome at any of the
VSCC Light Car events, where originality and entertainment is ranked higher than
a car's price tag or outright top speed....
