1968 Triumph TR6
Well prepared example;
lots of money spent in the right places; overdrive; professionally rebuilt
engine; worth close inspection - more photos coming soon
Dating from
November 1968, this hansome TR6 was originally sent to the States (like so many)
where it was to live until returning home in 1995. Just prior to import, it was
living in Washington State, just south of Seattle.
On arrival in the UK,
its new owner spent a fortune on the car with TR Bitz. This included a RHD
conversion and cost its owner many thousands of pounds to convert the car closer
to UK spec - including lights and trim parts etc.
Our vendor acquired it
in 2007 and enlisted Peter Thetford to look after the car. In 2008 it was given
a thorough check and considerable work to the chassis setup (caster/camber/toein
etc), engine tune and numerous small details - listed in the invoice on
file.
By 2011 and just a few thousand miles more, it was decided to give
the engine an overhaul, again work entrusted to Peter Thetford. The engine was
removed, stripped and rebored. The block was properly stripped, including
core plugs etc. and all oil and waterways carefully cleaned.
Con rods
were checked and rebushed/honed and new pistons fitted. All new bearings were
fitted throughout along with a new camshaft, followers and oil pump.
The
head was fitted with valve inserts to run unleaded - the total cost of this
detailed operation was c£3,000.
In 2012 the speedo was rebuilt and the
engine was also removed and a 'J'-type overdrive fitted as well as numerous
small details - the attention to detail is impressive.
In 2013 more
compliant Mazda MX5 seats were fitted (the originals are included in the sale)
at the time time of service. In 2016 the underside was scraped and properly
treated and a Revington heater fitted, along with numerous other detail parts
and attention.
2017 saw a carb rebuild and general service and it
went to Thetfords again in 2021 for a new clutch thrust bearing and multiple
suspension bushes, ball joints and brake pipes - you've probably got the picture
by now. This is a car that has been professionally maintained regardless of
cost.
Currently fitted with a pair of MX5 seats, it comes with its
originals should its new owner prefer the car to correct spec.
As can be
seen from the photos, it could do with a new front bumper, but don't let that
put you off - this car has been thoroughly sorted over the last fifteen years.
Its last MOT expired in January this year - not that it needs one.
If you
are looking for a car to use and enjoy, this is worth close
inspection.
