First registered in May
1969, this MGC Roadster was treated to a ground-up restoration by MG specialists
The Ennion Workshop of Nantwich in 1991 which included a reconditioned engine
and overdrive gearbox. The odometer was showing 40,500 miles at this time and it
has only covered another 17,000 miles since, as documented by 28 old MOTs on
file, the clock currently showing 57,469 miles.
A large file of
invoices attest to regular upkeep since 1991 with many new parts fitted over the
years. From 2006 – 2015 it seems that the car was mainly looked after by John
Chatham of Bristol. In November 2007 at 46,750 miles John Chatham rebuilt the
engine to Stage 2 tune with new pistons, bearings etc. The flywheel was also
lightened and the head converted to run on unleaded fuel, the bill for this lot
coming to £3,202. The brake servo was also uprated.
In 2010 it was
fitted with a set of Minilite alloy wheels which cost £600. In 2011 it was
treated to an uprated cooling system with a 4-bolt fan and a recored radiator. A
2” HD8 carb conversion was carried out at the same time, the bill for this lot
coming to £2,963. A full stainless steel exhaust system including manifolds and
twin tail pipes was also fitted which cost £1,180.
More recently it
has had new clutch master and slave cylinders. Other features include inertia
reel seatbelts, halogen headlamps and a Clifford Stingray alarm system with
instruction booklet. The soft top looks virtually new, as does the tonneau
cover. A pair of headrests for the front seats are also present. There are also
photos of the car as it looked in the mid-1990s and two sets of keys with
Clifford alarm fobs.
Our vendor acquired the car
in 2015 and has continued to look after it well. As you can see in the photos it
is in generally good order throughout and has been starting promptly and running
nicely as we have moved it around on site with good 40+psi oil pressure. A
well-maintained and sensibly uprated MGC, it looks like a lot of fun at the
guide price suggested.
