1984 Porsche 944
No Reserve
Stripped
out 2.5 litre example that's seen some hill-climb action during 2008-2010; Under
200 miles covered since purchase from us in July 2017 - ideal for some light
re-commissioning over winter
Porsche introduced
the 944 in 1982, using the 924 as a starting point but radically improving the
car in many areas.
This included ditching the
old VW engine and replacing it with a new 2.5-litre inline-four that pumped out
c.163bhp with bags of torque, it could propel the 944 to 137mph. With its front
engine, rear transaxle layout, the 944 was a fabulously well-balanced machine
and ideal for motorsport use
This striking
earlier square-dash 2.5 litre example was fairly well known in the local hill
climb scene, known as the “Photocar Porsche” due to its graphics, it featured at
sprints and hill climbs most notably during the 2009 & 2010 seasons where
the car ran in the Midland Hill Climb Championship and road-going production
classes. It scored a number of class placings, in particular at Prescott and
Loton Park hill climbs, but also ran a respectable 18.24 second sprint over the
quarter mile in 2010’s Brighton Speed Trials.
In more recent times, the car has unfortunately seen little use,
purchased from us in July 2017 the car has largely remained unused in the garage
of the vendor due to ill-health.
Amongst the
upgrades for competitive use, the car was treated to a larger front anti-roll
bar and a set of 16” alloy wheels off a 928 with expensive billet alloy
spacers.
The car was last serviced in July 2015
at 118,817 miles which included the fitment of new brake callipers
all-round. The car has covered only
a handful of miles since this time, less than 200 in fact, currently showing
119,015 miles.
The car’s history file includes
the V5 recording 11 former keepers, Certificate of Authenticity, original
service book showing 10 stamps, its coveted MSA (Motor Sports Association)
competition log book which records all competitive outings along with the last
MOT, which expired in June 2018 showing just one advisory, 10 old MOT
certificates and a few parts/maintenance invoices. The vehicle underwent a
recorded colour change from its original black, to yellow in May
2004.
With its partially stripped interior,
Sparco competition seat and 4-point harness belts, this car offers an intriguing
opportunity to re-continue its development for competition use with some
re-commissioning due given time stood still. We also note the signs of some corrosion
to the sills as pictured which may need attention before being used on the road
or track.
On offer at No Reserve, the highest
bid takes it away.
