Description
1956 Land Rover Series I 88" petrol and Brockhouse
trailer
AMENDMENT: A much loved Land Rover in regular
use; well cared-for with loads of patina: Brockhouse trailer included: just
how we like 'em
Bidders are advised that this is an 88" Series 1 and not
an 86" as previously catalogued. We are also advised that it has a 'period
correct' spread-bore two-litre engine, although the V5C does state 2,286cc. It
also has a Clayton heater and the trailer may, or may not be a Sankey instead of
a Brockhouse - its all still lovely!!!
Acquired by the
vendor's late brother in 2004, this splendid, sound, yet patinated Series I has
been much loved and used as his everyday workhorse.
The V5C suggests a
later, more powerful 2 1/4-litre petrol engine has been fitted and the chassis
and bulkhead are just as one would hope to find them in an unrestored
vehicle of this age.
The panels, while largely devoid of paint, are nice
and straight and it comes with a now rare truck cab plus hood sticks at the rear
(plus a spare set).
Driven to us for the sale, it comes with a handy
ex-military Brockhouse trailer connected to the solid rear cross-member with a
NATO hitch. It has featured in a number of adverts for Nick Ashley (son of
Laura) for his artworks and design and has also worked for its living until
recently.
Ready for a new chapter in its life, it creates interest
wherever it goes, representing the iconic Series Land Rover to a
tee.
There are plenty of useful spares included and it is one of the most
appealing old Landy's we have seen for some time. Well worth a close
look.
