1997 BMW 328i Cabriolet (E36)

Later model two-owner E36 Cabriolet showing just 18,610 miles with torquey 2.8-litre straight six and automatic 'box

Supplied new by Ivor Holmes Ltd BMW dealer of Croydon, South London in August 1997, this uncommonly low mileage, and low owner BMW E36 generation of 3-series Cabriolet is finished in delightful Samoan Blue with matching dark blue Mohair soft top and sits upon its original 15” 10-spoke alloy wheels shod in Michelin tyres.

Under the bonnet, we find the 2.8-litre M52B28 straight-six petrol engine which develops 190bhp and useful 280NM of torque driving the rear wheels here, via five-speed automatic ZF 5HP transmission with Sport, Economy and Winter modes.

The car shows just 18,610 miles which are believed to be genuine having been covered by just two lady owners, the first who was presented with the car when new as an elaborate anniversary gift by her husband. She covered just 18,000 miles in her tenure until it was purchased by our vendor in May 2019 who also bought it for his wife who has added only a few hundred miles in this time.

Inside, we find matching dark blue leather with manually adjustable seats, dual zone digital automatic climate control with AC, OBC with check control, Alpine radio/cassette, electric windows, electric mirrors and traction control.  The roof works electrically but we could not get it to operate at the time of photographing.

The car presents well, but there are a few marks as pictured and what looks like a small repair to the roof with some deterioration to the inner roof lining as pictured and some age-related wear to the interior. 

The history file includes the V5C recording one former keeper as mentioned, two old V5’s, the owner’s pack and service book with just two stamps, the PDI and first service at 5533 miles in November 1999, both by the supplying dealer. In addition, we find some 16 old MOTs plus the current valid until April 2023 recording no advisories.

Furthermore, the file includes the original new vehicle order form (which states grey cloth interior, so this must have been amended to blue leather after the original order) and selection of bills for annual MOT, minor repairs and servicing including the last documented service in July 2019 at 18,336 miles and original sales brochure.

Ready to be enjoyed, some minor work would get it looking splendid, and more representative of the low mileage, two-owner 328i Convertible that it is. It looks like a prime opportunity to us.
