1976 Triumph Stag Manual
A very smart example
showing just 55,000 miles; from long-term ownership; hard top; manual with
overdrive
Recently voted Britain’s favourite classic car by the
general public, the Michelotti-styled Triumph Stag was designed to be a
gentleman's sports tourer to compete head-on with rivals like the Mercedes
SL.
Sold between 1970 and 1978, it was a full four-seater and was powered
by an all-new Triumph-designed 2,997cc V8 engine that produced 145bhp,
sufficient to propel the car to a heady 115mph. With independent suspension all
round, front disc brakes, power steering and a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic
gearbox option, it had sophisticated road manners and the most wonderfully
woofly exhaust note of any car made on this side of the Atlantic.
This
1976 manual with overdrive version has been with the vendor since 2017, the car
having come from his close friend who acquired it in 1992.
The previous
owner kept a detailed record of his maintenance schedule, showing many new parts
and lots of care and attention up until 1998, after which there are further
invoices on file to show what was done after that.
The MOT history
shows that in the early naughties, it was covering between 400 and 700 miles per
year. It was registering 48,129 miles when he acquired the car in 1992 and still
only showed 56,340 miles when it was presented for its MOT in June of this year,
passed of course with just two advisories, one for waxoil underneath (why do
they say that?) and one for a minor oil leak.
Since 2017, a
regime of regular care and mainenance has taken place including a careful waxoil
to the underside and the inside of the sills and doors.
He has
fitted an oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on things and a set of five matching
tyres. The vendor confirms that the overdrive works as it should, the
transmission is quiet, the engine is quiet and the car is original down to the
Radiomobile radio. He has never driven it in the wet, and neither did the
previous owner according to him.
There are 27 old MOTs plus a raft of
invoices and various manuals and handbooks on file.
This is a very
nice example looking for a new owner to enjoy.
