Description
1970 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40
Right hand drive
manual; relocated from Bali with the vendor, who has owned the FJ40
over twelve years; big 4.2-litre (F2) engine fitted
ANM 819H was first
registered in Bali Indonesia in late 1970. The VIN suggests it came off the
production line in late July 1970. Vehicles must be re-registered every five
years in Bali and the registration documents have consistently shown the
original registration details with the 1F engine 3,878cc from the year of
manufacture; although the vehicle has a later 2F 4,230 cc engine,
presumably installed in the late 70s or early 80’s
The
original colour is ‘Biru’, blue in Indonesian and this is typically used to
refer to a darker royal blue colour, light blue is usually referred to as ‘Biru
muda’.
The
current owner acquired the vehicle back in 2009 from a friend in Bali who had
also had the car for the preceding 10 years and at the time it was a desert sand
colour. At this point, the engine was re-bored which made a massive difference
to the way it ran and the performance and torque levels.
The
vendor reports that the engine has run beautifully since this time with amazing
torque and could climb any mountain Bali had to offer, or easily pulling through
the deep sand of Bali’s tropical beaches. ANM 819H has a commendably rust-free
original chassis and a new roof was handmade in Bali in 2010. This was the
family car in Bali and was christened ‘Jenny Jeep’
In
2011-12 it spent around 18 months off the road in the hands of a local expert
FJ40 mechanic, who rewired the electrics, having spent a long-time in sourcing
original Toyota electrical parts and components. The car gained a whole new
level of reliability having had this re-wiring work done and was back on the
road again in late 2013.
The
next major job was the bodywork. In early 2018, it was taken back to the metal
and resprayed in dark royal blue.
In
late 2018 the vehicle was shipped back to the UK and into storage and has
been little used since.
