1996 Mitsuoka Viewt (K11)
Retro styled K11
series Viewt based on the proven mechanicals of the 2nd Gen Nissan Micra;
Automatic with AC showing just 47,551Km
Dating
from July 1996 this curiosity is a Mitsuoka Viewt, designed to emulate a Jaguar
MkII visually with the underpinnings of a Nissan Micra - you couldn't make it
up!
Imported to these shores and registered
here in May 2008, the Viewt boasts the proven mechanicals and running gear of
the K11 generation of Micra, this being a 1.3 litre CG13DE four-cylinder petrol
engine which develops 74bhp driving the front wheels via automatic
transmission.
Finished in burgundy, we see a
set of retro style wheel trims with body coloured steel wheels behind and lots
of polished chrome like bumpers and practical seating for four with a commodious
boot.
Inside, the Viewt reflects the cabin
design and spec of the then-current generation of Micra with two-tone leather
interior (grey and burgundy to match the body), air conditioning, electric
windows, power steering, heated rear screen and Sony radio/cassette
player.
The car shows just 47,651 Km which
equates to just 29,608 miles, which looks to be incorrect according to the
online MOT history, with the first MOT recording 66,962Km in May 2008 which then
fell to 43,113Km the next year, unless the odometer was converted (66,962Km
would equal 41,608 miles) – we will let you decide on this as there is
insufficient documentation to support either argument.
The history file does however include the V5C revealing just one
former UK owner, the current owner enjoying the car on a limited use basis since
May 2008, just 5 days after the initial owner, the importer Car-Tel, thus its
affectively a one UK owner example since import. In addition, we have one old style V5C,
the DVLA number plate authorisation certificate for the private plate MUF838F
(included) and current MOT, valid until November 2022 which recorded just two
minor advisories for play in the steering rack inner joint and slight bind to
offside rear brake.
Ready to be enjoyed – turn
up to a classic car meet and raise some eyebrows and questions, safe in the
knowledge that the indestructible Micra underpinnings are unlikely to leave you
stranded on the side of the A49 on the way home unlike the man in the real
MkII - perhaps!?
