Description
1971 Triumph TR6 PI
Fully restored in 1989/90
including rebuilt engine and only 28k miles since; current owner since 2013;
large history file; a most attractive TR6 with lots of history and
some choice upgrades
First
registered in March 1971, this fuel-injected TR6 was treated to a body-off
restoration in 1989/90 as detailed by many invoices and photos on file.
This included a full engine rebuild by Slark Race Engineering of
Salisbury with new pistons, reground crank, new timing chain etc. The cylinder
head was also rebuilt and modified with reworked inlet and exhaust ports and
valve throats, plus modified and balanced combustion chambers. A high
performance X pattern radiator has also been fitted along with a Kenlowe fan,
spin-off oil filter conversion, new clutch kit etc.
Since the restoration was completed the car has only covered 28,000
miles, as shown by 23 old MOTs on file. Lots of other bills show regular upkeep
since the rebuild including a reconditioned gearbox and overdrive in 2008 which
included uprated fast road laygear.
Our vendor
acquired the car in May 2013 and has covered 3,500 fine weather miles in it
since. It has continued to be well-maintained during this time with bills for at
least two major services, a Crypton tune-up, plus various new parts including
Koni shock absorbers, 36 amp alternator, braided stainless steel injector pipes,
inertia reel seat belts, battery isolator switch and a new set of Vredestein
tyres. He also had the car Rust Master treated shortly after he bought
it.
As you can see in the photos, the car still looks very smart today,
over 30 years since it was restored. Nice cosmetic upgrades include the walnut
dash, MotaLita steering wheel, stainless steel wire wheels and a discreet front
lip spoiler. Slark Race Engineering clearly knew what they were doing because
the engine sounds particularly sweet and has impressively good oil pressure.
We did note that the clutch pedal needs to be fully depressed to engage
the gears smoothly but the vendor says it has been like this since he acquired
the car. Although it no longer needs one, it has an MOT until April 2023 with
just one minor advisory for a deteriorated steering rack
gaiter.
A most attractive TR6 all round, with
some choice upgrades, it looks like a very tempting prospect at the modest guide
price suggested.
