Description
1998 Ford Escort 55D Van (MkVI)
Clean and tidy
1.8 Endura D van with exceptional interior and load bay suggesting caring use;
only 99,115 miles showing
Understood to have
originally been a Royal Mail post office van (according to vendor) this Ford
Escort Van dates from October 1998 and is thus a MkVI, the van variant being
produced between 1998 and 2002 when it was replaced by the Transit Connect.
Ok, so not an obvious contender for a Classic
Car auction, its in uncommonly unmolested and tidy order with a cockpit and load
area that look almost like they’ve never been used and shows under 100k miles
(99,115 to be precise) it’s a quirky entry that many will no doubt love for
popping to the allotment or taking the dog for a walk. Plus, Escort vans have
been available since 1968 and before that with the commercial body Anglia’s –
quite the dynasty…!
Under the bonnet we find
the naturally aspirated 1.8 litre Endura D engine which produces a modest 60bhp
and 110NM of torque, driving the front wheels via five-speed manual
transmission.
The history file for this Lot
includes the V5C revealing six former keepers a selection of invoices and note
from the owner referring to works undertaken in recent years including a new
timing belt and water pump, four new injectors and two new tyres in February
2020 at 91,663 miles, a new starter motor in July 2020, service, discs, pads and
front brake hoses in July and August 2020 and new clutch in March 2021 at 96,154
miles.
In addition, we find three old MOTs
along with the current, valid until January 2023 recording three minor
advisories (check online, enter the reg at check-mot.service.gov.uk). Bar a
little crustiness on the sills and minor cosmetics (see images) the van presents
well, starting and running nicely as we moved it around for these images and
video.
Ready to be enjoyed for work or play
this van offers much for little money.
