Potent turbocharged 2.0 VXR version kicking out 240bhp; big figure-hugging Recaro seats and a manual 'box - ideal track day weapon?

Supplied new by Aston (Melton Mowbray) Ltd Vauxhall Centre in March 2006, this 5^th Generation of the Astra, known as the ‘Astra H’ comes to us in exciting VXR guise, a sexy three-door hatch packing a turbocharged 2.0 litre Z20 LEH four-cylinder petrol engine developing 237Bhp and 320NM of torque driving the front wheels via six-speed manual transmission.

Finished in Arden Blue and wearing its original 19” multi-spoke alloy wheels finished in dark grey with blue brake callipers and drilled, grooved and vented discs hiding behind and big central rear exhaust in the aggressive rear bumper. The equally aggressive front bumper looks to feature some extra cooling holes around the grill courtesy of a previous owner no doubt.

Inside, we find the typical figure-hugging part-leather Recaro seats, air conditioning, on-board computer, radio/CD player, silver and also carbon effect trim, Sport mode and front fog lights.

Showing 110,339 miles the car looks good with a few marks commensurate with its age and mileage, sounding rorty as we moved it around for these shots and video.

The history file includes the V5C revealing ten former owners, owner’s pack and service book with nine stamps, the last in September 2016 at 85,173 miles plus timing belt in 2012 and a selection of bills for parts and maintenance including an invoice for a re-map dated May 2012 to 286Bhp by SouthWest in car tech Ltd of Bristol, a gearbox re-build by Thompson Motors Ltd in September 2015 costing £1296, fly wheel and uprated clutch kit from Courtenay Sport dated March 2015, Brembo front and rear brake pads in January 2020, new radiator in June 2019, head set and bolts in 2015.

Most recently a new battery was fitted in February 2022 and a few receipts from online orders are also present for purchase of a water pump, timing belt kit, engine mounts etc dated Dec-20 and Jan/Feb 2021 suggesting they have been bought, and likely fitted but there are no bills on file for fitment.

We also find nine old MOTs and current MOT valid until March 2023 with no advisories recorded, suggesting this looks like it could be a lot of fun for not a lot of money – track day weapon or hill climb car anyone?
