Description
1998 BMW 328i (E36)
Desirable, late model
manual 2.8 litre E36 Coupe; factory M-tech suspension; non-sunroof car showing
just 59,772 miles
Supplied
new by Dick Lovett of Bristol in February 1998 this smart, late model E36
generation Coupe comes in highly desirable 328i guise and is finished in
‘HellRot’ Red and sits on its original 10-spoke 15" alloy wheels shod with Avon
tyres.
The factory options for this Coupe
(according to an online BMW Vin# de-coder) include desirable factory M-Sports
suspension (S704), electric windows (S410), warning triangle & first aid kit
(S428), interior mirror with automatic dip (S431), through-loading system
(S465), fog lights (S520), vertical head lamp control (S510), automatic air
conditioning (S534), check control (S542), automatic stability control (S214),
adj. steering column (S246), sports leather steering wheel (S255) along with
Anthracite cloth interior, original BMW radio/cassette player and glovebox
torch.
Under the bonnet, we find the powerful
2.8-litre M52B28 straight-six engine developing 190bhp and 280nm of torque
driving the rear wheels here through BMW’s slick five-speed manual gearbox
giving exciting performance – no wonder so many non-sunroof coupes like this
have since been turned into trackday weapons and race/drift
cars.
This example shows just 59,772 miles
and has seen only limited use for the last few years. The online MOT
history shows the car was submitted for MOT every year (bar 2020) the mileage
rising steadily from 9,209 in 2005 to the current, suggesting the mileage
indicated to be correct.
The history file
includes the V5C showing just three former keepers (the last two being
father and son), an old V5C, two keys + emergency key, owner’s pack and
service book with only the supplying dealer stamp and lots of loose pages, some
of which look to have fallen out over time, a few bills for a new battery in
November 2021 and service kit in January 2022 at which time the car was
presented for MOT, valid until January 2023 recording just two advisories
for deteriorated front Anti-roll bar dust covers on both
sides.
Presenting very well, the car looks
gleaming, without any marks or corrosion to the bodywork to note, the underside
also looking dry and tidy (see images) which were taken at the time of service,
this January. The interior is tidy with
only some limited and common looseness of the door card material, some limited
signs of sag to the original head lining and fading of the pixels to the
check-control screen.
We expect the
bidding to be exciting on this car given its low ownership, low mileage and
rarity - being a 328 Coupe with
manual transmission, no sunroof and in completely unmolested order wearing its
original wheels, bumpers and interior – all aspects which are hard to find,
and highly prized nowadays.
Documents: V5C; owner's pack & service
book; invoices; 3 keys; 1 old MOT; MOT Jan 2023 with 2 advisories
