Description
1995 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo RZ MkIV
Top spec RZ model with optional 4-pot front brakes, Bilstein
suspension and Torsen LSD; original and unmodified with just 66,400 miles
with recent timing belt service in June 2020; hard to find in this condition;
investment alert!
Built in 1995, this
Toyota Supra RZ Twin Turbo automatic was imported to the UK from Japan in
November 2003, an old MOT showing that it had covered 103,937 kms at the time of
import (64,580 miles).
It was owned by a
London dealer until August 2005 when it was acquired by another London-based
dealer of exclusive cars who was to keep it right up until 2019. A note in the
handbook states that the cambelt was renewed in May 2004 at 103,951 km and a
12-month Mechanical Warranty Document and another old MOT show that it had still
only covered 104,090 kms when the specialist dealer acquired
it.
During his 14-year ownership the car
appears to have been kept in storage and barely driven, the next MOT being
issued in November 2018 (with no advisories) at 105,853 kms. The car was treated
to another timing belt service in June 2021 at 106,173Km including all fluids, 2
new Bridgestone front tyres and replacement rear shock absorbers (KYB) at a
cost of c.£800.
The car has also since been treated to
a cosmetic overhaul to rectify dull, faded paint through a bodyshop in South
Wales and alloy wheel refurbishment at a cost of over £2,000 and as a result,
looks superb (eagle eyed viewers may have noticed the front and rear Toyota
badges are missing, these re enroute to us).
A
top spec RZ model (we believe), it has the desirable factory options of four-pot
front brakes, Torsen limited slip differential and Bilstein suspension. An
AutoWatch alarm/immobiliser system was fitted in May 2005 while onboard
entertainment is provided by a remote-operated DVD/CD/radio
system.
The history file includes the V5C
showing just four previous owners (two of which are dealers), old blue V5C,
copy old V5C, two sets of keys and alarm fobs, four old MOTs; invoices
and an original 167-page Toyota Supra Owner’s Manual in English along with an
MOT until April 2022 recording three minor advisories.
As you can see in the photos, the car is in uncommonly original and
unmodified condition throughout– most unusual with these MkIV Supras which are
regularly tuned to 500bhp+ and are all too often fitted with aftermarket body
kits, rude exhausts and flashy wheels. Starting promptly and running beautifully
as we have moved it around on site, it has attracted much interest
parked alongside its Japanese performance counterpart, the NSX – such that
both Kelsey and Bauer media have both run features in their respective
magazines.
Most importantly though, it looks to
be rock solid both above and below with no signs of corrosion or abuse thanks to
spending so many years unused and in storage. The engine bay is also
exceptionally tidy and original as is the interior without any after market
gauges or steering wheel so often seen.
With a
conservative 280bhp as standard (over 300bhp in reality and officially 326bhp
for European markets), this iconic Japanese sportscar was a match for any
Porsche or Ferrari in its day - even the carpets had hollow fibres to save
weight.
Tested by Car & Driver in 1993, a manual
Supra had 320bhp, did 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, 0-100 in
11.1 seconds and had a top speed of 160mph, proving faster than the contemporary
Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo. The auto version could hit 60mph in 5.1 seconds. Manual
cars have been tuned to over 1,000bhp but the standard auto 'box can only safely
take around 550bhp!
The Twin Turbo
has gained a significant cult following in recent
years, not least due to appearances in the Fast and Furious film series and in
computer games like Gran Turismo, with the very best manual versions already
fetching six-figure sums in America.
Surely
among the most unspoilt Supra Twin Turbos remaining, this well-preserved
example, with its low mileage and outstandingly original condition, would sit
well in any collection and could yet prove a shrewd investment at the
sensible guide price suggested and has been a regular attendee at Caffeine
and Machine's Japanese/JD Daikoku nights where its attracted lots of attention
and camera phones!
