1988 Toyota Supra MkIII (A70)
Smart, low
mileage manual example with leather interior; spare wheels, exhaust and other
bits included; investment alert!
Supplied new by
Pollit of Exeter in October 1988 to its first owner, a gent from Exeter,
this MkIII A70 series Supra was quite the car back in the day.
Finished
in Super Red 2 (3E5) and sitting on its attractive and sporty 16-inch 7J alloy
wheels, the car looks the business with its razor sharp styling and low,
aero-dynamic shape, rear spoiler and oh-so-80’s pop-up head lights (who doesn’t
love them secretly).
Under the bonnet of this example, we find Toyota’s
legendary 3.0 7M-GE straight-six DOHC 24valve engine developing 200Bhp driving
the rear wheels via the more desirable 5-speed W58 transmission to give it
proper sporting credentials.
Inside the cosy cockpit, we find perforated
grey leather seats, with electrically adjustable side bolsters and lumbar for
the driver, matching grey carpets and dash console, electric windows with
driver’s auto function, cruise control, A/C, seat back storage nets, heated rear
screen, analogue dash, digital clock, head lamp washers and original Toyota
radio/cassette player.
Showing just 71,691 miles the car presents very
well with but a few marks as pictured and a small repair to the driver’s seat
bolster. The car has an after market exhaust fitted which sounds a little louder
and sportier than standard although there looks to be another exhaust system
included in the sale along with 3 spare wheels, brake discs and other
bits.
Starting promptly and running as it should as we moved it around
for these shots, the car felt well and responsive with a smooth gear change and
even idle, the cockpit a nice, comfortable place to be.
The history file
includes the V5C showing just 3 former keepers, the last since 1998, owner’s
pack and service booklet revealing 9 stamps the last by Devon County Cars in
June 1997 at 42,641 miles along with a note on other history from the previous
owner suggesting the last oil change was at 71,663 miles with gearbox and diff
oils changed at 67,889 miles and timing belt at 53,944 miles – however, there
are no supporting invoices or dates of when these works were carried out so we
would suggest a timing belt service might well be a good idea before regular use
and enjoyment.
The current MOT is valid until September 2022 with no
advisories recorded and shows little use over the past few years with only
c.1,000 miles covered annually between tests.
A rare to see, largely
unmolested naturally aspirated 3.0 manual UK supplied example with low owners
and mileage. You’ll have to decide if you want this or the Twin Turbo version
also in this sale….Don’t say we don’t spoil you!
