Description
1967 Land Rover S2a 88"
Petrol engine with
hard top, tow bar and rear seating; a handy bit of kit to have around
this winter
The successor to the immortal
Series 1, the Series 2 was produced from 1958 to 1961 and came in 88-inch and
109-inch wheelbases, using the tried-and-tested 2.25 litre petrol engine. It was
replaced by the very similar Series 2a in 1961 which remained in production for
10 years and is widely regarded as the most hardy of all the Series
models.
There were some minor cosmetic changes, but the most significant
change was under the bonnet in the guise of the new 2.25 litre diesel engine
which was offered as an option. Body configurations ranged from SWB soft top to
the top of the line five-door Station Wagon. From February 1969 the headlamps
moved into the wings on all models, and the sill panels were redesigned to be
shallower a few months afterwards.
First registered in Hampshire in February 1967, this S2a
88" has the headlamps on the front grille panel and the petrol engine. A plaque
on the dash suggests it was supplied new by Wallis & Steevens Ltd of
Basingstoke.
Fitted with a hard top and a cabin heater to keep you warm
and toasty in the winter, it has rear seating with seat belts plus a sturdy two
bar. 17 old MOTs show the mileage rising from 41,962 in 1993 to 115,283 in
2017 while an online check shows that the last MOT was issued in March 2018
with no advisories and it has only covered around 100 miles since. Now
MOT-exempt, the vendor has taxed it until May 2022 but obviously the next owner
will need to renew this at no cost as it is classed as a Historic Vehicle on the
V5C.
Supplied with a good file of bills for routine upkeep
over the years (including a new cluctch kit in 2004 at c.104,800 miles and new
brake shoes and pipes in March this year), it has been starting promptly and
running well as we have moved it around on site but will doubtless benefit from
a good check-over before any long journeys are undertaken, given the minimal
usage in recent years. On offer here at a modest guide price it will be a handy
bit of kit to have around, especially now that winter is upon us.
