1968 Daimler 250 V8

Only 30,600 miles indicated which seems likely to be correct; few owners; new MOT; runs well; a very genuine old Daimler all round

First registered in York in July 1968, this Daimler 250 V8 has had five owners from new, the third of whom, a Mr Tongue of Preston, owned it for 28 years (1985 – 2013). A letter from the second owner, dated September 1982, states that the indicated mileage of 24,469 was correct at that time and this is backed up by various old MOTs, tax discs and invoices from 1976 onwards which imply that the current indicated mileage of 30,648 is more than likely genuine.
It appears that the car was off the road from 1985 – 2001, a good sheaf of invoices showing that it was then recommissioned and tidied up before joining a display of classic Jaguars to mark the launch of the new X-Type at Jaguar’s Halewood plant on Merseyside (as shown in photos and press cuttings on file).
It then covered around 2,000 miles before being put into storage again in 2016. Recently treated to a new brake servo and refurbished front brake calipers, it passed its MOT in November this year with just a few minor advisories which you can look up online at check-mot.service.gov.uk
As you can see in the photos, the car is in generally good order throughout and appears to be largely original and reassuringly sound although it has most likely been repainted at some point in the not-too-distant past. This has been done to a good standard with just a couple of minor blemishes on the scuttle panel, as shown in the photos.
The car has been running and driving nicely as we have moved it around on site, although the starter button isn’t working so you have to press the rubber cap on the solenoid to fire it up. An easy enough fix, no doubt.
Altogether a very honest and unmolested old Daimler, with seemingly very low mileage, which is now crying out for the more regular use it deserves.
