Description
1996 Caterham Seven Supersports
Ford Kent
Crossflow engine producing 140bhp; some race history; more recently owned and
kept in storage in the uk on behalf of Irish owner
First supplied
by Caterham Cars as a kit in 1995, this Super Seven was purchased by its first
owner for £8,909. Further expenditure included the competition exhaust, roll
bar, immobiliser system and of course the distinctive green and yellow
livery.
Changing hands again in 1999 for almost
£11,000, having covered 8,600 miles, a report at this time shows a rolling road
DynoPlot indicating 148bhp at the flywheel, while running at 103mph. Changing
hands again in 2007 and 2012 (while it was used competitively on the track and
at hillclimbs), it was purchased by our vendor in 2013.
The current owner kept it in Ireland and has shared it with his
son, using it on the road, rather than for racing. The Ford Kent X-flow engine,
we understand was re-assembled by Dan Daly Engines (Dublin Formula Ford engine
man) not that long ago but has only run about 200 miles to bed it in. Really, it
still needs another 800 miles put on it to properly run it in. Due to personal
circumstances, the car was sent back to the UK and put into storage. Lack of use
has led to it being consigned for auction.
Certainly not a concours car, but fitted with the rebuilt engine,
toughened driveshafts by Rakeway engineering and a reconditioned diff by Redline
Components, the original seats have been re-trimmed, it comes equipped with half
hood and a tonneau so there is definitely potential for a lot of fun to be
had by someone.
The vendor has
also informed us that he has found at his home in Ireland, a full hood for the
car and has offered to send it on to the successful purchaser after the auction,
if required.
