1950 Lea-Francis Saloon
No
Reserve
From a private collection and barn stored since
1973; last taxed in 1970; originally owned by a bank manager in Hay on
Wye
So, this Lea Francis is now 71 years old, has
had only three registered keepers and looks to have covered 61,700 miles in
all that time. Normally it is rather tricky to determine whether this is correct
but since this entry has been posted online, we have been contacted by close
family friends of the initial owner back in 1950, who believe it was originally
purchased from Westland Motor Company in Hereford. Apart from memories of being
stuck in the back on the way to cricket matches, they also remember their pal
(the first owner's son) learning to drive in it and perhaps also learning how to
drive a little too fast – leading to some of the dents one still sees
today!
AEU 396 has always been a local car,
being sold to its second keeper who lived in Builth Wells during 1955
(apparently for £500) and subsequently passing to our vendor in the early 60s.
It joined a large collection of interesting motors, and was used sparingly
for a while, its last recorded MOT taking place in 1973, showing 61,686
miles.
We understand the car has been started
within the last five years, but it will need a thorough going over before taking
out on the road again. The interior shows lovely worn leather seats and
typically crafted 1950s woodwork and although it’s a great looking 1950s saloon,
it quite clearly needs some TLC all over. One of only 45 survivors known to the
owner's club, it is being sold to the highest
bidder……
