1960 Messerschmitt KR200

From a deceased estate, this funky KR has seen little recent use; original engine included plus other useful spares

Supplied new in February 1960 this UK market example of the Messerschmitt KR200 is a rare and desirable little beast.

It comes to us from a deceased estate, the vendor's late husband hunting long and hard to find the example he wanted. He eventually found his blue KR200 in June 1993. An avid club member he was a regular attendee and enthusiast covering c.1,000 miles per year in the blue-bubble.

In 1999 he opted to change the colour from red to blue and later, when the original 200cc engine became tired he installed a new Chinese 200cc engine. The car has remained unused for the last couple of years since the owner’s demise (title transferring to his widow in November 2020) until earlier this year when it was pulled out and looked over by a garage in Hereford. They fitted replacement fuel hoses, replacement starter motor, a new spark plug, replaced a drive bearing and a wiring correction. It was road tested and said to operate correctly at a cost of £719. Another invoice shows purchase of a new tinted dome with new handle in 2015 at a cost of £998.

The original KR200 engine and rear swing arm are included along with a host of other parts the family have found in the KR’s garage along with a huge stash of ‘owners club mags.

We have not had the engine running but it rolls around very easily, the body showing signs of age and would likely benefit from a thorough recommission and perhaps re-spray to make it perfect. The interior has been re-carpeted, but the canopy looks in good order as do the smart two-tone black and cream seats.

The history file includes the V5C, 2 old V5’s, couple of bills and folder of technical literature, owner’s manual, club manuals and parts booklets.
