Supplied new by Motox Mercedes in May 1989, this S124 series Mercedes 230TE estate features the 2.3 litre M102.982 4-cylinder petrol engine which developed 130bhp and drives the rear wheels via 4-speed automatic transmission with Sports and Winter/Economy modes.

Finished in Diamond blue metallic with matching blue cloth interior, Zebrano wood trim, cruise control, electronic locking diff, headlamp wash/wipe, leather steering wheel and gear knob. The car comes to us from 8 year ownership (according to V5C) and is best described as ‘requiring some restorative work’ - the paint has dulled and there is evidence of previous poor paint work to the wings and it is apparent that the rear suspension needs work as we moved it around, it bounced on the back.

Inside the car, we find parts to retrofit air conditioning in the boot and a couple of switches in the front binnacle. Whether its complete or works or not, we do not know.

The car shows 33,403 miles, however a documented speedo change at 61,449 miles on 21st February 2001 by Hughes of Beaconsfield Mercedes main dealer (as noted in the service book) revealing the car to have now covered c.94,854 miles in total. There are various hand-written notes regarding the car’s service and ownership history, service book with 23 stamps, the last in January 2016 at 26,002 miles and an array of document sleeves with invoices dating from 1992 to 2020, a vehicle spec sheet, sample interior cloth pieces from a trimmer, 6 old MOTs, copy old V5C, old private reg transfer docs and period sales brochures. The last MOT expired in September 2021 with just 2 minor advisories recorded.

One to perhaps use and improve, with lower than average mileage and a relatively smart interior, the W124 range of models are always popular - especially in Estate form and are good drive when in good health.
