Reserve
From the The Automobile Magazine 'Oily Rag' Reserve
Collection
Named after Studebaker’s iconic covered wagon that carried
the first white settlers across the vast tracts of America and Canada in the
late 18th Century, the Conestoga Station Wagon was produced for two
years only from 1954 to 1955.
Based on the fourth generation Studebaker Champion (the
junior model to the Commander elsewhere in this sale – Lot 57), the Conestoga
had a 2.8-litre L-head straight-six engine that developed a modest
85bhp.
According to the V5C, this Conestoga was first registered
in the UK in May 1964 and had just two owners before joining the Oily Rag
Collection in March 2017. Documentation includes a V5C and a parts catalogue.
It’s a major project, but worth saving for its rarity and load-lugging
ability.
