Description
1970 Triumph Spitfire MkIII
From the Ken
Norton Collection; owned by our vendor since new; cracking order having
been well-loved for many years
Purchased new
from Hewitts Garage in Staffordshire by our vendor in April 1970, this is a
cracking little Spitfire. According to the original invoice on file, it cost
£660, his earlier 1966 model being taken in part exchange.
Originally sold with a soft top, it now wears the very
smart hard top you see in the photographs - the hood and frame are still
present but not on the car. The service book records its first 1,000 mile
service by Hewitts and we understand it was driven by our vendor's wife almost
every day until she passed away in 2012. This is also certainly implied by the
huge bundle of MOTs on file and the more recently digitally recorded tests up
until 2015. Looking at the records, we estimate that the car has covered about
105,500 miles in total.
Used on a regular
basis for most of its life, it was treated to a sympathetic restoration in
2013. The work was entrusted to
AutoTek of Lichfield who carried out extensive body work, which included
replacing the front outer and inner wings, rear outer and inner arch panels,
repairs to any other adjacent panels and the obligatory associated paintwork and
rust proofing where necessary. The smart red stripe to the roof was renewed, one
of the front seats was repaired, the wheels refurbished, sundry nuts and bolts
replaced and after just over £5,000 expended, the car was presented as it is
seen today.
Most recently, it has
been taken to various local shows and events
and has been much admired although due to an unfortunate illness,
the car is being offered at a most inviting estimate. Happy
bidding…
Also included is the tonneau cover and a spare rear
windscreen.
