Description
1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SL-24
(R129)
Showing 95,000 miles; five previously recorded
keepers; AMG style deep dish wheels; desirable and presentable
machine
First
registered in October 1990, this is an early example of the rare 231bhp 24v
R129. Presented here with a respectable 95,800 miles showing on the clock, this
pokey number is sitting on some glitzy AMG style deep dish wheels which does set
it off rather well.
Unfortunately,
there is no service book to warrant the mileage due to the car being sold
through part exchange some years ago. It last officially changed registered
keepers back in 2001, having had five others previous to that. Our vendor
acquired the car through p/x though a few years ago and apart from putting it
through an MOT regularly, he has not done anything with it, only having covered
about 1,300 miles in the last 15 years or so, which is why it is being offered
for sale. (At a very tempting estimate, we should
add…..)
The car
certainly runs and drives, although as it has not been used a lot recently, a
decent service would be wise before any long distance is taken on. While at
Brightwells, we have removed the hard top and although not appearing to have
been used for a while, the soft top successfully clipped and unclipped into
place when the right buttons were pressed (and in the right
order!)
This is
surely a true modern classic, being a rare sought-after version of the model and
a true icon of those early 1990s. It is certainly not perfect with the
headlining a little saggy and those stylish wheels not surprisingly a little
scraped, but once turning fast, quite frankly, who would notice? Most tempting
at the published estimate, it gives scope for the limited remedial works
required and the result, as we so often say, could be ‘stylish wind in the hair
motoring’ and also potential year round use given the beautifully designed
removable hard top.
The MOT
runs until November this year, not showing any advisories and as an added bonus
with this lot, the registration could specifically suit someone…Anyone go to St
Louis University? Or perhaps visit St.Lucia
often?
