Description
1979 MGB Roadster
Lovingly restored over a 12
year period including Sebring style valances, new hood, Koni dampers - lots
of fun to be had
Dating from November '79, this late model, former
rubber bumper example was taken off the road in 2009 by our long term, and sadly
now deceased owner to restore. That he did, undertaking much of the work
himself over the last 12 years, he was well placed as a retired welder and
fabricator. Subject we gather, although unfortunately largely undocumented, to
a body restoration including fitment of Sebring style valences, resprayed
in black, upgraded electronics, mechanical rebuild, Koni converted suspension
with polybushes and fitment of a stainless exhaust with refurbished interior, a
new hood and roll bar the car is ready to be enjoyed this
Summer.
Starting promptly with a typical healthy, throaty thrum from the
twin exhausts, it certainly looks the part sitting on its period Wolfrace alloy
wheels (originals included) in black with its newly adopted Sebring look. In the
boot we find couple of wheel braces, spare, jack, tonneau and two
sets of keys.
The history file includes the V5C, current MOT without
advisory valid until March 2022 showing 72,363 miles, a photo of the car
pre-restoration complete with rubber bumpers, 3 old MOTs dating back to 2006 at
69,154 miles,a heap of SORN notices dating back to 2008 and stack of sundry
invoices for parts and tools bought to assist with the works.Within the
invoices, we find bills for lowered coil springs (2012), boot floor extension
panels (2013), K&N air filter, choke and throttle cables, clutch slave
cylinder (2016), Halogen conversion headlamps (2016), Brembo discs and
pads (2016), service kit (2017) and wooden gearknob.
History aside, the
car and images speak for themselves (including those of the underside) -
the results are good with but a few areas where paint finish might be improved
but this is but an aside. Its estimate represents a lot of adventure and fun for
a modest outlay with cheap classic car insurance, an abundance of club action
and knowledge and no part unobtainable. Everyone should own a B at some
point.
