Description
1957 BSA A7 500
Straightforward project;
new petrol tank included
The BSA A7 was to be the staple 500cc offering from the
Small Heath firm from 1946 through to 1961. Although it was designed in late
1939, it didn’t actually go on sale until after the war by which time there was
a huge demand for affordable transport. Marketed under the slogan ‘Its time YOU
had a BSA’, the rugged simplicity of the A7 twin made it a strong seller,
helping BSA to top the sales charts year on year.
The early bikes had a lazy 495cc engine with 26bhp and
bags of torque for an easy 85mph, although power was later increased to a heady
30bhp for the Shooting Star variant which came out in 1954.
First registered in June 1958, this A7 has had just two
owners since 2002, the current keeper acquiring it in January 2015. It wears a
tax disc from 2000 and an online check shows that the last MOT expired in
October 2008 which is perhaps when it was last on the road. Supplied with a V5C,
it also comes with a new petrol tank which has been rechromed to a high
standard.
On offer here as a straightforward project, it shouldn’t
take much to get it back up and running again.
