1980 Ford Capri MkIII 2.0 Ghia

Just recommissioned following 20 years in storage; full glass-out repaint; new brakes, tyres, exhaust etc; only 73,400 miles indicated; very smart and original

First registered in Manchester in February 1980, this Ford Capri 2.0 Ghia is showing 73,362 miles on the clock which is believed correct and is backed up by five old MOTs back to January 1990 when it had covered 46,716 miles. It has had five owners to date, the fourth of whom bought it in 1996 but only drove it for a short while before parking it up in his mum’s garage where it was to remain for the next 20 years.
Our vendor acquired the car in 2017 and has since treated it to a sympathetic restoration and thorough recommissioning. Fortunately the car had been Ziebart rust-proofed from new so the bodywork was in remarkably good shape and only needed repairs to the front headlamp pods, the front panel and the front floors. The outer sills, door pillars and scuttle panel are all original which is most unusual as these had a tendency to rust as soon as the car left the factory!
Following the metalwork repairs the Capri was treated to a glass-out repaint in the original colour, a new windscreen and new front indicators being fitted at the same time. The centre sections of the front and rear bumpers were also renewed and a complete new exhaust system fitted. All five wheels were refurbished with new wheel nuts and centre caps and new Firestone tyres all round.
The braking system was overhauled with new front discs, pads and calipers; back plates sand blasted and powder coated; new rear brake cylinders and new master cylinder. The cam cover was removed cleaned and powder coated. A new cam belt and water pump were fitted along with a new fan belt and a good service with new plugs, points etc.
Flying through its MOT in November 2020 with no advisories recorded, this freshly rejuvenated Capri now just needs an enthusiastic new owner who can give it the more regular exercise it deserves.
