1938 Talbot-Lago
T150C SS Replica
Stalled project; T23 chassis
professionally modifed to T150C spec; lots done, lots to do; exciting car -
including engine, pre-selector, axles etc. Spend time and money on something
worthwhile...
Given that
your average Talbot-Lago T150C retails for around £1.5m these days, this
exciting project looks like a very worthwhile venture for someone with ambition
and imagination.
Purchased by
our Australian vendor some years ago as a T23 project car, it has already
received a great deal of attention from respected, professional restorer Nick
Jarvis, who has undertaken several similar projects and built up a wealth of
knowledge on these ‘exotics’.
The bare
chassis has been stripped and modified to the correct 2,650mm wheelbase, using
factory drawings. Access to a genuine T150C chassis certainly helped proceedings
as well as the pictorial images of the original profile.
The work has
included details such as the engine mounting brackets etc as well as an accurate
copy of an original body frame – again using reference to an
original.
As can be seen
from the photographs, the car comes with an engine, which coming from the T23
donor car is a 3-litre unit. The head is off for inspection. A correct Talbot
ENV Pre-selector is also included (worth half the low estimate on its own!)
along with propshafts, half shafts, a steering column and various steering
wheels and numerous small components. In addition, a set of brand new unmachined
aluminium back plates are also included.
The project
comes with several files of photos and drawings and the remains of its French
documentation (see photo) – a carte grise from 1988 and a registration document
from 1955 showing its production date of 1938. These have been encapsulated for
safe keeping. It has been with its current restorer for a considerable time and
so does not have a NOVA number as its arrival in the UK from France predates
these by some margin.
In period,
these cars could top 140mph and offer formidable performance even in today’s
currency. Time and effort invested here would be rewarded with a very special
car indeed.
