1939 Leyland Cub Fire Engine
Long term
ownership until 2013 after serving the Monmouthshire fire service in Tredegar;
8-litre petrol engine; much loved for many years; runs and drives with very
effective bell and siren; marvellous machine and with very desirable
registration
First
registered in 1939, this magnificent Cub served the Tredegar Fire Service and
remained registered to Monmouthshire County Council until approximately 1970.
Seemingly very well known in the area, especially with the very recognisable
number plate, it appears to have been kept up and running for shows and parades
in the Welsh town.

1970 saw EAX 8
first handed over to private hands in Gloucestershire, where she remained, it
appears for long term ownership, until changing keepers again in 2013. There are
no bills on file for this period of time but it must have been kept well and
safe and maintained regularly, as the 8-litre petrol engine seems to run
smoothly enough when we manoeuvred her for the photographs. We understand the
owner at the time was a significant commercial vehicle collector and after sadly
passing away, the tender was sold to the current registered keeper. Seven years
later she is up for sale again. Although no bills to confirm, we also understand
that relatively recently it has had the cylinder head and gasket renewed, brakes
overhauled and clutch refurbished.

As can be seen
in the photographs, this machine is fully equipped with many of the original
features such as searchlight, ladders, upholstered seating, bell, siren and twin
rear wheels supporting the rest of the fire fighting valves and plumbing.
Overall, this is an impressive machine and although the top speed may be a
little limited, it certainly still looks the business and is ready for shows,
fetes, open days and parades but probably not racing to an
emergency.

Full logbook
history is in the file of paperwork recording registered keepers from 1940 until
today. There is also a weighbridge ticket within the file that states that it is
3,800kg and we undersatnd it is approximatley 5.60m
long.
