Description
1992 Mercedes Benz 300GD (W463)
SWB 3-door
manual 'box 3.0 diesel (OM603 engine) with turbocharger fitted, sunroof and burr
walnut trim showing just 115,500 miles by its five owners
Dating
from August 1992, this W463 itineration of the legendry G-Wagon is of the
‘newer’ extensively revised generation which saw a move away from spartan
utilitarian style of the past to a more luxury based specification to rival the
Range Rover.
Finished in light blue metallic and in desirable 3-door
form, the vehicle is in 300GD spec with used the venerable OM603 series 3.0
diesel engine, usually naturally aspirated and developing 111bhp. Looking
at this car however, it is evident that a previous owner decided that
wasn’t sufficient and has fitted a turbo charger - or possibly changed the
engine to the 3.0 OM606 turbo diesel unit or a 3.5 OM603.972 turbo diesel unit.
This is not clear as the vehicle's history has been lost bar the V5C and
current MOT which is valid until February 2021 with no advisories recorded.
The G presents well with straight body-work showing few signs of its age
or its meagre 115,500 indicated miles. The interior looks clean and tidy and it
started and drove well when we moved it around for these images. A super
alternative to a classic Range Rover or Land Rover, these go anywhere machines
have a certain something about them that makes them acceptable and oh-so-cool no
matter where you take them – hence why they still cost what they do and are
still being built by Mercedes.
