Description
Current owner 20 years and one-family-owned before that; in regular
use until 2010; recently recommissioned at a cost of over £4,500 with many new
parts; hydraulics working; driven to the sale; use and improve
First registered
in March 1970, this RHD Citroen D19 Special was in single family
ownership from new until 2004, the father working at the Citroen
dealership in Slough. Our vendor acquired the car from the family in 2004 and
had it partially restored and repainted. It was then used daily and for family
holidays up until 2010, covering some 20,000 miles over this six-year
period with various bills for routine upkeep.
Put
into storage for the next nine years, in 2019 it was thoroughly recommissioned
by French car specialist Leycroft Autocare of Worcester at a cost of over
£4,500. This included repairs to the chassis and the floor pan, a new boot floor
and a new front valance.
The brakes, suspension
and fuel system were fully overhauled with many new parts fitted. It also got a
new water pump and the alternator was refurbished. It passed its MOT in February
2019 with no advisories recorded and it has only covered around 300 miles since.
More recently it got a new wiring loom in October last year. We are told that it
also appeared in the last series of 'Richard Hammond's
Workshop'.
The vendor states that the car runs
and drives well with the hydraulics working as they should. It was driven
some 20 miles to the sale and has been running well as we have moved it around
on site, with effective brakes, good steering, a nice gear change and a
healthy-sounding engine.
As you can see in the
photos, it is no show pony cosmetically with a few areas that would
benefit from attention, both inside and out. Eminently usable as it is, this
quirky French classic is on offer here at a modest guide price and could be
smartened up over time as desired.
