Repainted and retrimmed; easy project with huge
potential
NCD 700 was first registered to Mr Arthur Edwards of
Brighton on 23rd October 1953 in black livery. The buff logbook confrirms a move
to Birmingham in 1957, changing hands locally a year later and then again in
1961. The number is still recognised on the DVLA database.
The old style
V5 lists it as living near Kidderminster in the 1990s, the car being acquired by
Brian in a sorry state. It was last taxed in 1994. Restoration started in
2016 with the complete car heading to Restoracar in Blockley, who stripped and
rebuilt the bodywork where necessary and the painted the car blue. A
professional job, it looks superb. A note on the folder states that this work
cost nearly £14,500.
The car was sent for retrimming, again a
professional job by Cheryl Moran upholstery adding a further £6,650 to the
total. The interior trim looks superb too.
The engine was rebuilt in 1968
and Brian stripped the unit again in 2017, removing the sump and unblocking the
waterways in the head. A new Ian Nuttall head gasket was fitted and the block
and head faced, cleaned and inspected. He added John Bradburn cam followers -
Brian commenting that it was all in good order and had probably done very little
work since its earlier rebuild. He added that the carbs were cleaned and may
have even been new at the last rebuild.
In a really attractive colour
combination - there is not a great deal left to do. This is an easy and very
exciting project which will turn into a top-class restoration with relative
ease. Take a good look.
