1971 Lotus Elan Sprint
Super example set up
for fast road/sprint from long term loving ownership; fitted luggage - huge
fun
Dating from October 1971 this pretty Elan
Sprint is finished in the typical two-tone John Player Gold Leaf cigarette
racing colours and features the more powerful ‘big valve’ 1.6-litre inline
four-cylinder engine, which reputedly produced 126bhp in stock tune giving the
cars a zero to sixty time of just 6.6 seconds - seriously quick in the
era.
This tidy example was treated to a full
re-build in the mid-80’s since when its been enjoyed and more recently treated
to a high pressure oil pump, adjustable shocks and new main bearings in
2016. We also note fitment of a
roll bar and side impact bars, new large ali radiator and sports air
filters.
In the boot, we find some useful
spares and also a spare N/S door glass, tonneau cover, spare hood cover and most
unusually, a pair of fitted suit-cases for cheeky weekends away in the
car.
The history file(s) include the V5C
showing it has been in the current ownership since January 2014, copy old V5C,
an impressive 29 old MOTs dating back to 1985 and 54,801 miles and heap of bills
for parts and maintenance, bill of sale from 2014, a box file full of relevant
magazines, photos of the car in various states of undress down to a rolling
chassis and engine block letters, useful workshop manual and 2
keys.
Starting promptly and running well, the
car immediately feels eager and nimble and was driven some 50 miles to the sale
by the vendor with a smile on his face.
One to
love, enjoy and use.
